Frequently asked questions

Warranty, shipping, compatibility, returns and ordering: everything to know about buying a used engine or transmission from Junkyard Gold.

Warranty

What does your warranty cover?

Our warranty covers defects in the part itself — internal mechanical failure not caused by improper installation, lack of maintenance, or external damage. If the engine or transmission fails due to a pre-existing defect within the warranty period, we will replace the part or issue a refund. The warranty does not cover labor, ancillary damage, or wear-and-tear items.

How long is the warranty?

We offer up to a 90-day warranty on all used engines and transmissions. The warranty period begins on the date the part is delivered to you. Certain high-mileage or specialty parts may carry a shorter warranty period — this will always be clearly disclosed at the time of purchase.

How do I make a warranty claim?

Contact our support team at support@junkyardgold.com or call us at (904) 481-5300. Have your order number, vehicle information, and a description of the issue ready. We'll walk you through the claim process — typically within 1 business day.

Does the warranty cover installation labor?

No — our warranty covers the part only, not labor costs associated with removal or reinstallation. We strongly recommend having the part installed by a qualified mechanic and keeping records of the installation. This helps with any potential warranty claim.

Does improper installation void the warranty?

Yes. The warranty is voided if the part has been modified, damaged during installation, or installed without following standard mechanical procedures (e.g., not flushing the cooling system before installing a used engine, or not replacing the transmission filter and fluid). We recommend installation by a certified mechanic.

Ordering & Payment

How do I place an order?

You can call us directly at (904) 481-5300 or fill out our online quote request form. Our team will confirm availability, provide pricing, and walk you through the order process. We do not currently have a self-checkout online store — all orders are confirmed through our team to ensure you get the right part.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover), PayPal, and bank wire transfer for larger orders. All card payments are processed through secure, encrypted payment gateways. We do not accept personal checks or cash for remote orders.

Is a deposit required?

For most standard orders, full payment is required before the part ships. For larger wholesale or special-order parts, we may accept a 50% deposit to hold the part, with the balance due before shipping. This will be communicated clearly during the order process.

Can I cancel my order?

Orders can be cancelled before the part ships with a full refund. Once a part has been shipped, the order cannot be cancelled — however, our standard return policy applies if the part is defective or not as described. Contact us as early as possible if you need to cancel.

Shipping & Delivery

Do you ship to all 50 states?

Yes, we ship to all 50 US states. Delivery to Alaska and Hawaii is available but may take longer and carry additional freight surcharges due to the remote nature of these destinations. We'll communicate any additional charges upfront before you pay.

How long does shipping take?

Most orders are processed and picked up by the freight carrier within 1–3 business days. Transit time is typically 5–10 business days depending on your location. You will receive tracking information once your order ships.

How is the part packaged for shipping?

All engines and transmissions are secured on heavy-duty freight pallets, wrapped with industrial stretch film, and strapped for stability. We use freight carriers experienced in handling heavy mechanical parts. Engines are drained of fluids before shipping per freight carrier requirements.

What if the part arrives damaged?

Before signing for the delivery, inspect the pallet and packaging for visible damage. If damage is present, note it on the delivery receipt and contact us immediately. Do not install a part that appears to have been damaged in transit — contact our team first and we'll work with the carrier to file a claim and arrange a replacement.

Can I pick up locally from Bradenton?

Yes! Local pickup from our Bradenton, FL location is available by appointment. Contact us to schedule a pickup time. Local pickup avoids freight charges and lets you inspect the part in person before taking it.

Compatibility

How do I know the part will fit my vehicle?

When you contact us, provide your vehicle's year, make, model, engine size, and VIN number if available. Our team cross-references this information against our inventory to confirm compatibility before you pay. We don't ship parts without confirming they're the right fit for your application.

What if I don't know my engine or transmission code?

No problem — your VIN number contains encoded information about your factory engine and transmission. If you provide us with your VIN, we can look up the exact specifications your vehicle was built with. Alternatively, your vehicle's door jamb sticker or owner's manual may also have this information.

Can I use a used engine from a different year?

Often yes — many engine families share the same block across multiple model years, making cross-year swaps compatible. However, there can be differences in sensors, wiring harness connectors, emissions equipment, and computer calibration. Our team will advise on known compatibility issues for your specific swap before you order.

Does the engine or transmission come with accessory items?

Engines are typically supplied as a "long block" (block, head, camshafts, valvetrain) unless otherwise specified. Accessories such as the alternator, power steering pump, intake manifold, and exhaust manifolds may or may not be included — this will be specified in your quote. Automatic transmissions always include the torque converter at no extra charge.

Quality & Inspection

What inspection does each engine go through?

Every engine undergoes a multi-point inspection including: cylinder compression test, leak-down test, visual inspection of all seals and gaskets, bearing wear assessment, oil and coolant inspection for contamination signs, and mileage verification against available records. Engines that don't pass are not listed for sale.

What inspection does each transmission go through?

Transmissions are dyno tested for shift quality and engagement in all gears, valve body and solenoid function is checked, the torque converter is inspected, fluid condition is assessed, and external seals are checked for leaks. We also verify the transmission shifts smoothly through its full range before approving it for sale.

How do you verify the mileage?

We verify mileage through available vehicle history records from the donor vehicle, odometer documentation, and physical inspection of internal wear indicators. We are transparent when a part's mileage cannot be fully verified and will note this in the listing or quote.

Are your parts cleaned before shipping?

Yes — all parts are cleaned externally before inspection. Engines are drained of old oil and sealed at all openings for shipping. Transmissions are drained of fluid, inspected, and also sealed. We recommend a full fluid service upon installation regardless of the part's condition at arrival.

Returns & Exchanges

What is your return policy?

If a part is defective or was incorrectly described, you may return it within the warranty period. Contact us at support@junkyardgold.com with your order details and a description of the issue. We'll arrange a return shipment and either replace the part or issue a refund depending on availability and your preference.

Can I return a part if I ordered the wrong one?

If you receive a wrong part due to an error on our end, we will cover return shipping and send the correct part at no additional cost. If the incorrect part was ordered due to an error in the information you provided (wrong year, model, engine size), a restocking fee may apply and return shipping is the customer's responsibility.

Can I return a part that has been installed?

Installed parts can only be returned under warranty if a defect is present. Parts that have been installed and are functioning correctly cannot be returned. Parts that have been modified, machined, or damaged during installation are not eligible for return or warranty claim.

Trade & Wholesale

Do you offer wholesale pricing for repair shops?

Yes — we work regularly with independent repair shops, body shops, fleet operators, and dealers. If you're a business with recurring parts needs, contact us to discuss a trade account. We offer volume discounts, priority sourcing, and dedicated account support for trade customers.

How do I set up a trade account?

Contact us at support@junkyardgold.com or call (904) 481-5300 and ask about our trade account program. We'll ask for basic business information and discuss your typical parts needs to tailor an arrangement that works for your shop.

Can you source parts that aren't listed on your website?

Absolutely — our website showcases popular inventory but represents only a fraction of what we can source. We have access to a nationwide network of salvage yards and wholesalers. If you need a part not listed, contact us with your vehicle details and we'll do our best to locate it quickly.
